SEASON 6 (2K17)

"STABILITY"

Season 6 was a season in which I expect the rest of MLBA history should be similar to. It was a season where there wasn’t much owner turnover and one in which the activity was spot on. It was the first season that we tried to finish the season in 3.5 weeks, and the playoffs in 1.5 weeks, and it worked out perfectly. Seasons from now on should take right around 5 weeks (from draft to draft). We also added new additions to the league, such as weekly (or per round) podcasts, and found a way to do commentary for games.

In terms of the actual gameplay, it went quite as you expect. We underwent a redraft, and guys were trying to figure out what type of team they want to build. The best owners (especially in terms of roster configuration) went with young teams in which they knew they could develop guys and maintain a high draft choice in the offseason draft. I expect this type of planning to become the precedent as other guys realize the importance of being patient in an online association, where development is half the battle. However, the other major factor that really threw guys gameplay off was the All Mighty Shooting Patch that 2k decided they wanted to Beta test for 2k18. We didn’t adjust the sliders, and it ended up being points in the paint GALORE. Guys reaching close to the 80% threshold more than ever before, and it really devalued the level of play in the league. Seemed that everyone had a chance to beat anyone based on how 2k was feeling for a given game. Safe to say scripting has been enhanced…

When we reached the playoffs, there really wasn’t a big surprise as to who made it on each side. Mini TNT, Takeoff, and Smook all became new playoff contenders in the West (following Smooks move from Detroit to New Orleans). In the East, MoneyMar (now in jail…) made his first appearance, pushing poor ol Mr. 2k out to the annual BBQ party, hosted by Sasha and Friends. Mr. 2k not making the playoffs was probably the most surprising and the most disappointing, because that Bucks V. Pistons first round would have been quite entertaining.

In the playoffs, we finally received some parity. We were two Game 5’s away from having 2 new finalists, but sadly Ocho and Mario couldn’t pull it out over TNT. On the other side of the West, Kobe cruised past Meaks and Takeoff, only to get smushed by his “rival” TNT. Is Kobe the CP3 of the league? Kind of ironic, based on his name and that his favorite team is the Lakers… On the East, Drummond cruised by MoneyMar and JSmoove with 2 sweeps (with a miraculous comeback against MoneyMar). On the other side, it got interesting. Army pulled off an upset over Duya, and Radiggy gave X2 a fight. In the Conference Semi-finals, X2 blew a 2-0 lead to Army… who subsequently took 3 close Ls to Drummond.

In the MLBA finals, we had 2x loser TNT go up against Drummond. Jazz V. Bucks. Honestly, the prevailing opinion was that if Drummond made it out of the East, that he would take down TNT. However, this didn’t come to fruition, as it seems that TNT was the only one who seemed to not be affected by the patch. He finally gets his ship, albeit still didn’t get it over X2, who clearly has his number. TNT took a 3-0 sweep and is now forever enshrined in the Hall of Champions… with Tony Wroten as finals MVP.

Congrats to TNT and welcome to the Hall of Champions!
